The .re domain, managed by AFNIC (the French Association of Internet Naming and Corporation), is a ccTLD (country code top-level domain) for Reunion Island. The Reunion Island is a French overseas department located in the east of Madagascar, 175 km in southwest Mauritius, and in the Indian Ocean. It is considered as a strategically important part of France for its geopolitical and cultural identity.

Since its introduction in 1997, it has been country-specific under AFNIC rules. After December 6, 2011, it was no longer a region-specific domain, making it accessible to anyone living outside of French proximity, whereas individuals and businesses residing in the European Union can access French domains.
