Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .contact zone?

Yes. Download a sample .contact domain list or a sample .contact dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 14,303 registered domain names in the .contact zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds DNS servers, server IP, hostname, emails, phone numbers, and more. See the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .contact are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .contact domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .contact domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it manually, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page (the Download button next to it gets the full list of active domains). Through the API, call /api2/?method=download&zone_tld=contact&dataset_type=list&filter_type=new&token=YOUR_API_TOKEN (dataset_type=dataset for the detailed dataset); see the API documentation.

What format and size is the file?

Every .contact domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .contact basic list is about 61 KB and the detailed dataset about 217 KB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

The .contact is a top-level domain introduced on 22 December 2015 by Donuts Inc. to provide an identifiable digital space for communication. Sites targeting fans, consumers, or related audiences can use it in their web URLs for brand recognition. It's a source of better connection for customer services, social media influencers, or marketers with potential visitors.

This TLD is a generic domain with no restrictions, making it a versatile option for businesses and individuals who want to target their audience. Various industries can use it for sites focusing on communication or networking because it is not an industry-specific domain extension. The .contact extension enables visitors to easily remember the site because it is relevant to the purpose of the searched term.

As it is among the newly launched extensions, you have a greater chance of getting a preferred name for your site. It started gaining registrations in December 2019 with an initial record of 5000 domains. After this, it showed continuous growth with a record of more than 12000 registrations until today.
