Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .live zone?

Yes. Download a sample .live domain list or a sample .live dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 671,465 registered domain names in the .live zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds the nameservers, the server IP and its country, the hostname, emails and phone numbers found on the website, and, where the registry publishes them, the registration and expiration dates and the registrar. The full list of columns is in the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .live are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .live domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .live domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it by hand, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page; the Download button next to it fetches the full list of active domains. Through the API, use the download method with the new filter, as described in the API documentation.

Can I download deleted .live domains?

Yes. The Deleted domains list contains the .live domains that were in the zone the day before and have dropped out of it, so it covers the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. Deleted domains are available as a list of domain names only, there is no detailed dataset for them.

A deleted domain is not necessarily free to register. The list records names that have dropped out of the .live zone: the registration expired, or the domain was suspended or undelegated. After the expiration date a domain normally goes through a renewal grace period and a redemption period, typically 30 to 75 days depending on the zone, during which the current holder can still restore it, and only after a short pending-delete period is it released for registration. Some names return to the zone when the holder renews or a suspension is lifted, and then appear in the New domains list again.

What format and size is the file?

Every .live domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz). The basic list has one domain name per line. The detailed dataset has one row per domain with the additional data listed in the dataset format details. The current .live files are about 3.5 MB (basic list) and 14 MB (detailed dataset) compressed. Any archiver opens gzip files; on Windows, for example, the free 7-Zip. Through the API you can also download the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

The .live domain is a generic top-level domain created for real-time interaction on the web. It was introduced in October 2015 by Rightside and is now operated by Identity Digital; it is available to anyone across the globe and has become one of the most registered new gTLDs.

The extension was established with performers, artists, streamers, influencers and the media industry in mind. Businesses and lifestyle sites use it to host live streams and share live content such as webinars, podcasts and events.

.live is short and unique in the crowded digital space and works for both businesses and organisations that want to signal something happening now. Registration is open to anyone without restrictions.
