What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?
Both cover the same 142,142 registered domain names in the .ws zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds the nameservers, the server IP and its country, the hostname, emails and phone numbers found on the website, and, where the registry publishes them, the registration and expiration dates and the registrar. How often are .ws datasets updated?
The .ws zone is a country-code (ccTLD) zone, and its registry zone file is not directly accessible. NetAPI discovers .ws domains through large-scale crawls: newly discovered domains are added to the list daily, and the full dataset is rebuilt every one to two months. See how updates work.
Can I download only newly registered .ws domains?
Not for this zone. Newly discovered .ws domains are merged into the active list daily, but there is no separate new-domains file for .ws. Daily new-domains lists exist for the zones marked as updated daily in the datasets catalog.
What format and size is the file?
Every .ws domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz).
The basic list has one domain name per line. The detailed dataset has one row per domain with the additional data listed in the
dataset format details.
The current .ws files are about 885 KB (basic list)
and 1.6 MB (detailed dataset) compressed.
Any archiver opens gzip files; on Windows, for example, the free
7-Zip.
Through the API you can also download the files uncompressed (format=plain).

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?
No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.
Additional .WS Zone / Registry Information
The domain was introduced in 1995 for Samoan websites and has been open to everyone since July 14, 1998. Its use in China and its versatility for domain hacks contributed to its growth. Most second-level .ws names have no geographical restriction, while .org.ws, .gov.ws and .edu.ws are limited to eligible registrants.
.ws became known in 2016 as one of the first registries to offer emoji domain names, and tens of thousands of them were registered in the following years. The registry is operated by SamoaNIC under the government of Samoa.
