Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .wiki zone?

Yes. Download a sample .wiki domain list or a sample .wiki dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 138,977 registered domain names in the .wiki zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds DNS servers, server IP, hostname, emails, phone numbers, and more. See the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .wiki are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .wiki domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .wiki domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it manually, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page (the Download button next to it gets the full list of active domains). Through the API, call /api2/?method=download&zone_tld=wiki&dataset_type=list&filter_type=new&token=YOUR_API_TOKEN (dataset_type=dataset for the detailed dataset); see the API documentation.

What format and size is the file?

Every .wiki domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .wiki basic list is about 641 KB and the detailed dataset about 1.5 MB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

The .wiki top-level domain is a generic domain aimed at building collaborative online wikis that enable content sharing and editing similar to Wikipedia. It's perfect for communities, initiatives, and companies looking to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange.

In 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers introduced the .wiki domain. The domain is managed by Donuts, a US-based provider of domain name registry services, and is available for public registration as a gTLD. When the .wiki domain went live, more than 3,000 of them were registered.

Initially, educational institutions, open-source initiatives, and wiki communities used the .wiki domain to establish online communities for collaboration. As part of Globe Runner's New gTLD SEO Power Rankings Index, .wiki was listed as one of the ""Top 20 Best New gTLDs Based on Quality"" in July 2015. The ranking was compiled using information gathered from over 20,000 created websites on new gTLD domains.
