Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .cam zone?

Yes. Download a sample .cam domain list or a sample .cam dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 149,976 registered domain names in the .cam zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds DNS servers, server IP, hostname, emails, phone numbers, and more. See the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .cam are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .cam domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .cam domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it manually, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page (the Download button next to it gets the full list of active domains). Through the API, call /api2/?method=download&zone_tld=cam&dataset_type=list&filter_type=new&token=YOUR_API_TOKEN (dataset_type=dataset for the detailed dataset); see the API documentation.

Can I download deleted .cam domains?

Yes. The Deleted domains list contains the .cam domains that were in the list of active domains the day before and are missing from it today, so it covers the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. Deleted domains are available as a list of domain names only, there is no detailed dataset for them.

A deleted domain is not necessarily free to register. The list records names that have dropped out of the .cam zone: the registration expired, or the domain was suspended or undelegated. After the expiration date a domain normally goes through a renewal grace period and a redemption period, typically 30 to 75 days depending on the zone, during which the current holder can still restore it, and only after a short pending-delete period is it released for registration. Some names return to the zone when the holder renews or a suspension is lifted, and then appear in the New domains list again.

What format and size is the file?

Every .cam domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .cam basic list is about 752 KB and the detailed dataset about 1.7 MB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

The .cam domain is a top-level domain formed especially for camera-related uses. It offers websites and services linked to photography, videography, and camera technology. The ICANN approved this domain in 2013. After being opposed by three parties at first, demand.media's United TLD eventually acquired the domain name. In September 2015, the .cam domain opened for registration, and people began to adopt it readily.

Initially, camera manufacturers, photographic studios, and suppliers of camera accessories were the primary users of the .cam domain. Then trends took a shift and anyone doing online business started to use the .cam domain. Today the .cam domain is ideal for anyone owning a camera, whether they take pictures for fun or a living. This domain extension is especially perfect for businesses where security plays a key role such as entertainment, security, media and banking institutes.
