Zone Registry: Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology

The .rmit domain was a brand top-level domain created in ICANN's 2012 new gTLD programme for RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. It was delegated to Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology on November 23, 2016 and, like most brand TLDs, was reserved for the registrant's own use rather than offered to the public; a .brand domain lets a company run its web presence on a namespace it controls entirely. The registry operator later asked ICANN to terminate the registry agreement, and the domain was removed from the DNS root zone on September 27, 2021. IANA now lists .rmit as not assigned: no domain names can be registered under it and any historical addresses in this zone no longer resolve. The zone is kept in NetAPI for historical reference only.
