Can I download sample datasets for the .read zone?

Yes. Download a sample .read domain list or a sample .read dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 1 registered domain names in the .read zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds the nameservers, the server IP and its country, the hostname, emails and phone numbers found on the website, and, where the registry publishes them, the registration and expiration dates and the registrar. The full list of columns is in the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .read are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .read domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .read domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it by hand, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page; the Download button next to it fetches the full list of active domains. Through the API, use the download method with the new filter, as described in the API documentation.

Can I download deleted .read domains?

Yes. The Deleted domains list contains the .read domains that were in the zone the day before and have dropped out of it, so it covers the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. Deleted domains are available as a list of domain names only, there is no detailed dataset for them.

A deleted domain is not necessarily free to register. The list records names that have dropped out of the .read zone: the registration expired, or the domain was suspended or undelegated. After the expiration date a domain normally goes through a renewal grace period and a redemption period, typically 30 to 75 days depending on the zone, during which the current holder can still restore it, and only after a short pending-delete period is it released for registration. Some names return to the zone when the holder renews or a suspension is lifted, and then appear in the New domains list again.

What format and size is the file?

Every .read domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz). The basic list has one domain name per line. The detailed dataset has one row per domain with the additional data listed in the dataset format details. The current .read files are about 1 KB (basic list) and 1 KB (detailed dataset) compressed. Any archiver opens gzip files; on Windows, for example, the free 7-Zip. Through the API you can also download the files uncompressed (format=plain).

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.
