In 1986, the Netherlands country code top-level domain the .nl was created, making it one of the four oldest registrations of country codes in the world following .tk, .cn, and .de. A Netherlands foundation, Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland (SIDN), took on the responsibility of managing the .nl domain.
