Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .ngo zone?

Yes. Download a sample .ngo domain list or a sample .ngo dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 7,091 registered domain names in the .ngo zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds DNS servers, server IP, hostname, emails, phone numbers, and more. See the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .ngo are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .ngo domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .ngo domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it manually, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page (the Download button next to it gets the full list of active domains). Through the API, call /api2/?method=download&zone_tld=ngo&dataset_type=list&filter_type=new&token=YOUR_API_TOKEN (dataset_type=dataset for the detailed dataset); see the API documentation.

What format and size is the file?

Every .ngo domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .ngo basic list is about 32 KB and the detailed dataset about 136 KB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

The .ngo domain is a generic top-level domain launched in 2015 by Public Interest Registry (PIR), the operator of .org, together with its French-language twin .ong. It is reserved for validated non-governmental organisations: registrants must confirm that they are a genuine NGO, and .ngo and .ong are bundled — one registration activates both names.
The extension gives NGOs a verified, recognisable address and is used by charities, advocacy groups, humanitarian organisations and foundations worldwide.
