Zone Registry: KeNIC

The .ke was introduced on 21 April 1993 for businesses connected to Kenya. It is administered by the Kenya Network Information Center (KeNIC), a non-profit organization responsible for managing, registering, and issuing the country's TLD.

Before KeNIC, the administration was under the control of two American-based tech experts: Shem Ochuodho from Kenya and Randy Bush. It was intended to promote businesses and individuals for online presence connected with Kenya from around the world as an authentic entity. The users will use this domain on the basis of their connection with Kenya.

The KeNIC also introduced the second or third-level domains in 2017 for more specific personalization. Registrars ask businesses to submit verification documents to see if they are eligible to use these domains. It is very popular in Kenya and 102,775 registered domains are recorded till December 2022.
