What format and size is the file?

Every .gives domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .gives basic list is about 26 KB and the detailed dataset about 71 KB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

The .gives domain is a generic top-level domain originally launched in 2014 by Rightside (later part of Donuts) and transferred in 2022 to Public Interest Registry, the operator of .org, as part of PIR's family of charitable extensions (.charity, .foundation, .ngo, .ong).
It is intended for donation campaigns, corporate giving programmes, fundraising platforms and philanthropic projects (brand.gives). Registration is open to anyone without verification.
