Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .er zone?

Yes. Download a sample .er domain list or a sample .er dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 13 registered domain names in the .er zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds the nameservers, the server IP and its country, the hostname, emails and phone numbers found on the website, and, where the registry publishes them, the registration and expiration dates and the registrar. The full list of columns is in the dataset format details.

How often are .er datasets updated?

The .er zone is a country-code (ccTLD) zone, and its registry zone file is not directly accessible. NetAPI discovers .er domains through large-scale crawls: newly discovered domains are added to the list daily, and the full dataset is rebuilt every one to two months. See how updates work.

Can I download only newly registered .er domains?

Not for this zone. Newly discovered .er domains are merged into the active list daily, but there is no separate new-domains file for .er. Daily new-domains lists exist for the zones marked as updated daily in the datasets catalog.

What format and size is the file?

Every .er domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz). The basic list has one domain name per line. The detailed dataset has one row per domain with the additional data listed in the dataset format details. The current .er files are about 1 KB (basic list) and 1 KB (detailed dataset) compressed. Any archiver opens gzip files; on Windows, for example, the free 7-Zip. Through the API you can also download the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

Additional .ER Zone / Registry Information

Zone Registry: EriTel

Registry Policy: link

The .er domain is the country-code top-level domain of Eritrea, a country on the Red Sea coast of the Horn of Africa. It was entered into the IANA root zone on September 24, 1996, and is administered by the Eritrea Telecommunication Services Corporation (EriTel), the state-owned telecommunications operator.

.er is one of the least used country-code domains in the world. There is no public online registration system; domains are assigned directly by EriTel, mostly to government bodies, state enterprises and a small number of local organisations, and registrations are typically placed at the second level under labels such as .com.er, .gov.er and .org.er. Because of the very limited Internet penetration in Eritrea, the zone contains only a few hundred active names.
