Frequently Asked Questions

See our FAQ for more answers.

Can I download sample datasets for the .blog zone?

Yes. Download a sample .blog domain list or a sample .blog dataset.

What is a basic domain list, and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both cover the same 517,594 registered domain names in the .blog zone. A basic list is one domain name per line in a gzip CSV. A detailed dataset adds DNS servers, server IP, hostname, emails, phone numbers, and more. See the dataset format details.

What are active and new domains?

Datasets for .blog are updated daily. Active domains are all currently registered names in the zone. New domains are names added in the last 24 hours.

Can I download only newly registered .blog domains?

Yes. The New domains list contains only the .blog domains registered in the last 24 hours and is rebuilt every day. To download it manually, sign in and click the number in the New domains column of the download table on this page (the Download button next to it gets the full list of active domains). Through the API, call /api2/?method=download&zone_tld=blog&dataset_type=list&filter_type=new&token=YOUR_API_TOKEN (dataset_type=dataset for the detailed dataset); see the API documentation.

What format and size is the file?

Every .blog domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .blog basic list is about 3.1 MB and the detailed dataset about 7.5 MB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

How do I automate daily downloads?

Schedule automatic downloads through the API. See the API documentation for authentication and endpoints.

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

.blog domain was launched in 2016 by the WordPress.com parent company, Automattic. The blog is derived from the word “weblog”, a kind of online diary or journal. It is a generic top-level domain (gTLD), built to provide easy access to an online space for writers and bloggers. As the name suggests, its purpose is to promote the website’s content.

Although the .blog domain is relatively new, it reached more than 100,000 registrations during the first year of its launch. Today, the .blog has many users, such as publishing companies, journalists, bloggers, content creators, and media outlets.

The .blog domain lets anyone create a personal space for hobbies, ideas, or expertise. Businesses can use it too, to connect with customers and showcase industry knowledge. It separates blogs and encourages interaction, making it perfect for both personal branding and casual content.
