The .ar domain is the country-specific internet code assigned to Argentina, which was created in 1987. The early launch of the domain made it one of the oldest ccTLDs. A department of the country's Ministry of Modernization named Nic Argentina manages the domain. Several second-level domains under the .ar are commonly used for purposes to promote educational or governmental websites in Argentina.

The .ar domain was specially designed for the individuals and organizations that are connected to Argentina.

Since 2014, after restrictions were reduced, people from other countries started adopting this domain. However, most .ar domains are still registered by people in Argentina, showing that most of the locals are interested in using them.

In the year 2019, a new alternative was presented where people are allowed to register website addresses directly with .ar, without requiring any second-level domains such as .com, .net, etc. Due to its popularity, it has become one of the most recognized ccTLDs.
