What format and size is the file?

Every .gay domain list and dataset is a CSV file compressed with gzip (.csv.gz): the basic list has one domain name per line, the detailed dataset has one row per domain with the columns described in the dataset format details. Compressed, the current .gay basic list is about 97 KB and the detailed dataset about 303 KB. Any archiver opens gzip files, for example the free 7-Zip on Windows, and the API can also serve the files uncompressed (format=plain).

Are emails and phone numbers available for every domain?

No. We collect contact details from public websites when available. Many domains have no published email or phone, and we do not guarantee these fields on every row. Do not use the data for unsolicited bulk outreach.

After a decade-long battle by the LGBTQ+ community to acknowledge and promote their online identity, the top-level domain name .gay became accessible. It was suggested under the New Generic Top-Level Domain Program of ICANN and was made public by the domain name registry in September 2020. The domain was made to give LGBTQ+ individuals, clubs, and supporters a secure and welcoming environment in which they can express themselves and interact with like-minded people.

In an effort to support the LGBTQ+ community, Top Level Design donates 20% of registration fees to GLAAD and CenterLink, two LGBTQ+ organizations.

The .gay domain has taken part in numerous pro-LGBT online and social media activities since it was created. The .gay has featured renowned people such as Chris Mosier, Angelica Ross, and Sophie. This domain continues to be secure; as stated in the .gay Rights Protections Policy, anti-LGBTQ content is strongly forbidden and may result in domain suspension.
