What is a basic domain list and how does it differ from a detailed dataset?

Both datasets include the same number of domains (for the .tel zone there are currently 38,719 unique domain names).
A simple domain sheet contains _only_ a list of domains (one domain per line). The detailed dataset also contains a set of additional fields (DNS servers, IP, emails and phone numbers found on the corresponding domains/websites, etc.). More information about the extended dataset file format can be found here.

What are "active" and "new" domains?

The .tel datasets are updated daily. When we say “active domains”, we mean all delegated domains. This means that they have at least one DNS server assigned to them (i.e. they appear in the global zone-lists of .com zones). If a domain is not delegated, it is absent in global zone-lists and in our list. Non-delegated domains are an insignificant part of delegated domains, so they can be neglected.

Since we update our data every day, we understand which domains have appeared in and which have disappeared from the global zone lists. Based on this difference, we compile our lists of new domains.

I need to set up a daily import of domain lists to my server. I don't want to download it manually every day. What should I do?

For the convenience of other developers, we have created a special and very convenient API, which allows you to download both any selected dataset individually and the total dataset of all domains at once. Read the full description of the API here.

The detailed dataset contains emails and phone numbers. Are they for every domain?

Please do not use our data for mass mailings. Of course, they can be used for targeted cold outreach, but only after careful filtering and only if done within the law. We take emails and phone numbers from the websites of the respective dataset domains. Note that many sites do not have these data, so we do not guarantee that these data are present in the dataset for a particular domain.

The .tel is the unique top-level domain launched in March 2009 by a UK-based domain registry company, Telnic Limited. It was intended to store contact information about the domain owner directly in the DNS and act as a global online directory. Users don’t need a website or additional navigation to access the contact details, which shows an innovative creation among TLDs.

The history presents epic growth, with 200,000 registered domains recorded three weeks after its launching. In January 2011, Telnic Limited achieved 300,000 registrations and then exhibited a sudden drop in 2014. Despite its decline, many individuals and businesses have used .tel until today and showed 43,227 registered websites under this TLD as of 9 October 2023.

Multiple entities use it to share location information, contact details, and social media profiles to enhance their digital presence. It serves as an online business card for customers who want all the ample information in one place.
